Last week I posted this question on Instagram: if you had all the money and all the time in the world to travel as much as you can, which would be the place you’d keep going back to?

For me, the answer is not an easy one. I’ve been to London, Madrid, Mexico DF, Dublin, Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, New York… a few times and every time I go back there I find something new, something amusing that makes me keep going back. But the list doesn’t end there, it keeps growing: Japan, Iceland, Morocco… I’d love to go again; and there will be new ones as I keep discovering the world.

And your answers weren’t ‘standard’ either. From Kansas to Tanzania, we jumped from continent to continent 🙂

So, while I visit Madrid for the travel fair, where I should discover new destinations and initiatives, I thought it’d be nice to share and see which are the places we’d be going back to again and again:

Spain

Yes! Spain us the country ranks high by the number of votes. The southern sun, the food the beautiful sights…

“I thought my answer to this question would always be some mind-blowing place that I remember for one badass event, but actually as I grow older (and hopefully wiser) my answer has come to be Spain. Spain has been good to me in so many subtle ways, it feels like home. Tarragona (it’s where I spent the longest) but I’m hoping to return to the south coast very soon, as I loved it there (Fuengirola & Mijas, near Marbella) too. Missing that sunshine right now” — moomads

“Ronda, Spain in the Andalucian region. Stunning sights, great food (make sure to go to De Locos Tapas), wineries, cycling/driving to neighbouring white villages. Rupit and a Pyrenees hike in Catalonia region. I can go on…” — mylifeofwanders

Greece and Italy

I’ve been to both and they are incredible! Santorini was the first answer I got, from PostcardsandPassports. Paros was also chosen later in the conversation. I would have added Mykonos, but these are your choices 😉

Italy made it to the top of the list too. It just amazed me nobody mentioned Rome or Venice…

“I would say May or June for Austria, the mountains in summer are magical and in full blossom and september for Sicily!” — Cultureandadventure

As for the rest of Europe, I got a couple of votes for London, one for Edinburgh – Scotland, another one for Ireland. And Germany, and Austria and Italy and Norway…

So far I think Poland. The cities are beautiful, the people are fun and I always have a great time — chasingpenelope

Thailand

I haven’t been to Thailand yet, but looks like many of you already have. So I asked where to go and Scott gave me this advice:

“Depends on what you want. I’m a beach guy, so I’d focus on Koh Samui and Krabi. If you’re looking for more cultural things, I’d go north to Chang Mai. Be sure to allow a few (2-3) days for Bangkok as well. — Atthedrop

Philippines

I’ve been reading a lot about Philippines lately, no wonder it came up several times through the conversation.

“It will always be Boracay, Philippines. I’ve been there twice already and I still want to go back.” — coffeehan2010

New Zealand

One of the destinations on top of my bucket list, now that I’ve been to Iceland. So I dropped a couple of questions too, and this are some unmissable things for a future trip to New Zealand:

“So many! Wine tasting in Otago, kayaking the Abel Tasman, Cape Reigna at the tip of the north island, cruise in Milford Sound, a visit to Wanaka…there’s no end to the adventure in that country!” —longhaultrekkers

“New Zealand! Loved all the adventure, scenery, and the beer too! NZ has some fantastic microbrews and grows some unique hop varieties. Garage Project was our favorite, which I’ve occasionally seen outside of NZ.” —roamingaroundtheworld

Japan

You already know I’m in love with Japan, but I am not the only one 🙂 It’s one of those places I’ll go back for sure, so I asked for some out-if-the radar destinations in Japan for that future trip….

“The night view from mt. Hakodate, in Hakodate, and Goryokaku. I guess these are quite under-the-radar spots!” — travelingluca

The list doesn’t end here

If you check the answers I got, the most repeated repeat travels only got 2 or 3 votes. This proves that we are all different travelers and that the world is full of unique places we aim to discover.

These are the other destinations you added to the list:

  • Australia: Lizzard Island and island hop through the Great Barrier Reef
  • Jamaica
  • Bahamas
  • Greneda
  • Panama
  • Cambodia
  • Vietnam: Hanoi
  • Myanmar
  • St. John
  • Cuba: Remedios
  • US: Alaska, Hawaii, Kansas
  • India: Mcleodganj
  • Namibia
  • Botswana
  • Himalayas
  • Rwanda
  • Galapagos
  • Tanzania
  • Bali
  • Mexico

So, if you had all the money and all the time in the world, which would be the place you’d keep going back to? 😉

If you had money enough and time enough to travel to the end of the world and back, where would you go again and again and again?
